CIIR Associate Director and CICS Assistant Professor Hamed Zamani was selected as the recipient of the ACM SIGIR 2023 Early Career Excellence in Research Award and the ACM SIGIR 2023 Excellence in Community Engagement Award. Prof. Zamani accepted the awards at the 46th International ACM SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval (SIGIR 2023) held in Taipei, Taiwan in July 2023. According to ACM SIGIR, the Excellence in Research award is given to "a candidate who is well-known in the IR community for his innovative thinking, pioneering contributions, and strong collaborations." He received the ACM SIGIR 2023 Excellence in Community Engagement Award for his "many leadership roles in SIGIR, founded new programs including the CIIR talk series and the SIGIR Student Liaison program, and has released numerous open-source software tools and datasets."
