Project Summary
The CIIR is working with a team of institutions that are developing the technical capabilities and executing the organizational responsibilities of the core integration of the NSF National Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology Education Digital Library (NSDL) Program. Collaborators include UCAR, Cornell University, Columbia University, the University of California at Santa Barbara, the CIIR, and the San Diego Supercomputing Center. The CIIR is extending existing indexing technology to improve support for indexing metadata in a variety of formats and quality; providing retrieval capabilities that merge metadata and content searches; providing management utilities to allow manipulation of the retrieved set of resources, and providing query expansion/refinement techniques based upon thesaurus relationships.
This work was supported in part by the Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR) and in part by the National Science Foundation Cooperative Agreement number ATM-9732665 through a subcontract from the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)
